Berkeley, California.April 22, 2014 — With nearly 2 million veterans in California and a generation of veterans returning from two wars, a cooperative of innovative library systems have launched a timely and relevant project, War Ink, an online exhibit of Iraq and Afghanistan veteran memorial tattoo art. War Ink will launch on Veterans Day and represents a platform to explore the unfiltered record of war that veterans have documented on their body. All you need is your library card number to get free downloads and streaming of digital music and movies. What exactly is Freegal? It means “free and legal” music and movies now available through the Library’s website. Free for patrons, that is. This service is underwritten by your local library.

The Berkeley Public Library is pleased to announce that the award-winning design firm of Noll & Tam Architects and Planners has been selected to provide a full range of programmatic, architectural and design services for its Central Library. Renovations of the interior public spaces will improve the layout of collections, lighting, placement of the public computers, and address the need for quiet and group study areas, as well as adequate and appropriate space to meet the needs of teens and youth. After a competitive process, the firm was selected based on their extensive library design and building experience.

Berkeley, March 13, 2014 — Just five years after a landslide ‘Yes’ on bond Measure FF and an innovative Neighborhood Libraries Campaign partnership, Berkeley Public Library cardholders now have access to libraries of the future in every neighborhood in the City. This April, the Library celebrates advancing the value of libraries in the modern age by inviting the public to a month-long, system-wide librarywarming.

Berkeley, January 31, 2014 – Berkeley Public Library has launched its new website,, showcasing the Library’s connection to the community while providing easy access to its dynamic print, music, film and digital collections. As part of the development of the new site, the Library’s web team involved staff and members of the community from the beginning: soliciting input, conducting user testing and collecting and analyzing survey data.

Berkeley, February 3, 2014. The Berkeley Public Library annual report covering the 2013 fiscal year is now available electronically on the library’s website. The report, in narrative and photographs documents the various programs and activities of the library and a fiscal summary. This year’s theme is a year of progress and innovation.

The Berkeley Public Library will continue offering its free job counseling in 2014. Experienced Career Counselors from North Cities One Stop will provide drop-in career counseling the fourth Wednesday of every month at 2:00. p.m. in the Central Library’s Third Floor Electronic Classroom.
