Berkeley, April 30, 2014—Fresh from our launch of Freegal® Music and Freegal® Movies, the Berkeley Public Library is launching another digital movies service called IndieFlix. Through the Library’s website card holders have unlimited access 24/7. IndieFlix provides access to award-winning independent films, shorts and documentaries from around the world. Patrons have unlimited access to stream thousands of film-festival hits, including the best of Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, and more.

Berkeley, April 28, 2014 – Berkeley photographer David Jouris exhibits large-scale archival pigment prints from his Bay Area dance series at the Central Library from April 28th – July 6th, 2014. The exhibit co-insides with Bay Area Dance Week (Friday April 25 - Sunday May 4, 2014).

The Berkeley Public Library will offer a free five-week session of Family Place Parent-Child Playshop at the West Branch located at 1125 University Avenue, beginning Friday, May 23 from 10:15-11:30 am. Get ready to plant a backyard vegetable garden in this fun program led by gardener and edible landscaper Gary Crandall at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 7th, 2014 at the Claremont Branch located at 2940 Benvenue Avenue. Mr. Crandall will cover how to plan, start and plant a vegetable garden including tools, materials, soil prep, seed starting and ongoing maintenance as well as selecting what to plant when. Berkeley, California.April 22, 2014 — With nearly 2 million veterans in California and a generation of veterans returning from two wars, a cooperative of innovative library systems have launched a timely and relevant project, War Ink, an online exhibit of Iraq and Afghanistan veteran memorial tattoo art. War Ink will launch on Veterans Day and represents a platform to explore the unfiltered record of war that veterans have documented on their body. The Berkeley Public Library is pleased to announce that the award-winning design firm of Noll & Tam Architects and Planners has been selected to provide a full range of programmatic, architectural and design services for its Central Library. Renovations of the interior public spaces will improve the layout of collections, lighting, placement of the public computers, and address the need for quiet and group study areas, as well as adequate and appropriate space to meet the needs of teens and youth. After a competitive process, the firm was selected based on their extensive library design and building experience.
