Special

Poetry Circle @ Claremont

A new poetry program at the Claremont Branch of the Berkeley Public Library features you and what you like on the second Thursday of each month from 6:30 pm-7:50 pm starting October 9th, 2014.  Bring in a favorite poem, and, if you write poetry, bring one of your own too. We will be sharing poems in a reading circle. Discover new poets, hear new voices and ways of working the same old world into new words. So come, participate in the friendly atmosphere, share a ready ear, read aloud (or recite), and let the words do their weave and swing and work.

Congressman John Lewis @North

Please join us for a special event at Northbrae Community Church (941 the Alameda, Berkeley, CA 94707) as Civil Rights Movement champion Congressman John Lewis (D GA-5) shares insights from the second installment of his three-part graphic autobiography, March. March chronicles Lewis' lifelong struggle -- from an Alabama sharecropper's farm to a segregated schoolroom to the 1963 March on Washington to the halls of Congress -- for civil rights and justice.

Banned Books Week Bike Tour

September 21-7 is Banned Books Week, let’s celebrate intellectual freedom with a community bike ride on Saturday, September 27! Pedal with us from branch-to-branch, starting at North and ending up at Central. Along the way, we’ll enjoy portions of a treasured, famous banned book: John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.  You can start with us at North Branch at 10:00 and do the whole ride, or meet us at any stop along the way.  The full ride will be 7 miles.  Inclement weather will cancel the event.
