Berkeley Public Library – Library Card Design Contest
Theme: “Kindness”
Berkeley Public Library is hosting a year of kindness. We are seeking photos, drawings and designs that represent the way that kindness is created and felt in our communities every day. What forms and stories illustrate kindness in your life? Think big and small: how might you like to see kindness grow by sharing your creativity with your community?
As a library, we have seen kindness develop engagement and positivity through programs and services. By cultivating kindness, we can better serve our library's mission of being a welcoming place, providing opportunities for joy, and a container for collaboration. Designs must have a connection to kindness, the library, and our community. What says Kindness to you?
Rules:
- This contest is open to anyone with a current Berkeley Public Library card, with the exception of Berkeley Public Library employees.
- Entries are limited to one per person.
- Entries may be photographs or hand drawn/painted, but all submissions must be submitted in a digital format. Preferred digital file formats are: .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .pdf
- Library card dimensions are 3.5in x 2.25in (portrait or landscape mode) with a resolution of at least 300 ppi, so please keep these in mind when designing. The library can scale designs, as well.
- All submitted images must be original and address the theme
- All entries must be accompanied by a completed Entry form/Release Agreement

Submission (Entry and Photo/Drawing Release Agreement):
All submissions must be accompanied by a completed Entry form/Release Agreement. Participation in the contest constitutes the participant’s express consent to the use of the participant’s submitted artwork and/or photos by the Berkeley Public Library without compensation or limitation or other reservation of rights by the participant. Please read the complete contest rules on the Entry/Release Agreement before signing and submitting your entry. No hard copies will be accepted.

Judging
Submissions will be judged for quality and effective representation of the theme. The winner will be determined by a judging panel. The winner will be personally notified; a subsequent announcement of the winner will be found on the library’s website and in all Berkeley Public Library locations. The new library card design will be unveiled in September to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month.
Prize:
The winning photo or drawing will be featured on an official library card of the Berkeley Public Library.
