Repulsive Reads - Horror Book Club @ North

-

Join us for our monthly meeting of Repulsive Reads, the new horror focused book club at the Berkeley Public Library North Branch.

Celebrating all things grim, grotesque, unsettling, macabre, and weird in fiction, each month will venture into a new dark corner of literature and the psyche. This month's title is The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle.

Flyer for Repulsive Reads Book Club - Ballad of Black Tom by LaValle

The Ballad of Black Tom is a fantasy-horror novella based on the H. P. Lovecraft "The Horror at Red Hook," recast to be told from a black man's point of view.

Turning and adapting Lovecraft's controversial but undeniable legacy within the horror genre, LaValle's work is both a rebuttal and a "beautifully creepy...tale of mystery, monsters, and madness" (Vice).

The book won the best novella category in the Shirley Jackson, Nebula, and Hugo Awards upon publication. Delve into the occult and Cthulu mythos in this violent and horrifying novella from one of modern horror's master storytellers.

Limited free copies available for pick up at the North Branch.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Although this book club is open to all ages, some material might be disturbing or inappropriate for younger readers.
