Join us for this intergenerational Peace Day Commemoration.

We will listen to beautiful koto music by Shirley Kazuyo Muramoto, and hear short reading in honor of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who lived through the bombing of Hiroshima, but died years later from the effects of the atomic bomb. She was made famous for folding 1,000 origami cranes in the hopes that her wish to survive would be granted.

Then, join us to learn how to fold paper cranes that you can send to Hiroshima or keep for yourself. We will also learn a simple Bon Odori Dance, performed to celebrate the spirits of one's ancestors.

Ages 8 and up (younger attendees are more than welcome, but may need significant help from their adults in learning to fold cranes)

Held on the lawn of the North Branch Library.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Berkeley Public Library
