Join the Berkeley Public Library as we celebrate the launch of Berkeley’s acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company’s 20th anniversary season, which opens with renowned American playwright Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning A Delicate Balance. At the Berkeley Public Library’s Central Library, 2090 Kittredge Street, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, Aurora Artistic Director Tom Ross and Aurora’s Education Director Michael Mansfield will speak about the Aurora production and lead a moderated discussion on Albee’s brutal comedy of manners, which won the Pulitzer after its 1966 Broadway premiere. A Delicate Balance plays September 2 through October 9 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. A Delicate Balance is a sharp, witty examination on the limits of our responsibility to others, including family and friends, how hard it is to hold everything together, and how easily everything can all fall apart. Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross helms a remarkable cast, including Aurora co-founder Ken Grantham, the company’s first leading lady Kimberly King, Jamie Jones, and Bay Area favorites Anne Darragh, Charles Dean, and Carrie Paff. Aurora Theatre Company offers challenging, literate, intelligent stage works to the Bay Area, each year increasing its reputation for top-notch theater. Located in the heart of the Downtown Berkeley Arts District, Aurora Theatre Company has been called “one of the most important regional theaters in the area” and “a must-see midsize company” by the San Francisco Chronicle, while The Wall Street Journal has “nothing but praise for the Aurora.” The Contra Costa Times stated “perfection is probably an unattainable ideal in a medium as fluid as live performance, but the Aurora Theatre comes luminously close,” while the San Jose Mercury News affirmed “[Aurora Theatre Company] lives up to its reputation as a theater that feeds the mind.” Berkeley’s Central Library is open Monday 12 noon until 8 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. For more info please call 510-981-6195 or visit www.berkeleypubliclibrary.org.
