Many articles back to 1981 are also free, however before 1987, most front page articles and those with images must be purchased. In addition to searching keywords, you may narrow your search by categories based on the New York Times section and subject matter--for example, you may limit your results to Magazine Articles, Book Reviews and more. After searching, these limits may be found at the bottom of the results page.
