Come to the Central Library's Electronic classroom and learn how to use Libby, Hoopla, and other top library resources. Feel free to bring your own mobile device, or use our library computers. Please know you Apple ID/password if you are planning to install any apps to your personal devices. Also please bring a library card or know your library card number so you can follow along with the activities.

Digital Skills with Tech Exchange @THP South

Join the Tarea Hall Pittman and our partners from Tech Exchange for a 4-part digital skills series! Tech Exchange provides an opportunity for community members to unlock their digital potential through free digital skills classes. Classes will cover essential topics such as Cybersecurity, Zoom Basics, Email Fundamentals, Internet Fundamentals, and Windows Operating System Basics.

Discovering Digital News and Information @Central EC

Discover free online resources that the library offers and beyond, to help you keep up with current events and fact check what you hear and read on the internet. Librarians will cover the free online news subscriptions the library offers, such as the New York Times and Washington Post, as other free platforms and ways to get your news.

Basic Internet @North

Join us in the North Branch Community Meeting Room for instruction, guided learning, and group Q&A. This workshop is geared toward new internet users and folks who are not yet comfortable and confident internet users.

Here we will cover: types of internet connections, browsers and functionality, apps, files, and safety measures. You may bring your own device(s) or use ours; we ask that your personal items arrive charged up and ready to go.

Have a question about email, internet, using your phone, using library eBooks, or streaming movies through Kanopy? Book a 30-minute individual appointment with library staff who can help you with your tech questions.  This individual appointment will be in-doors and in-person. Bring device with battery charged, library card, and relevant account logins/passwords.  Please sign up by visiting North Branch Library or by calling 510-981-6250.

Basic Computers Workshop @North

Whether you're figuring out a new device you got as a gift or just want to take on a new skill, we invite you to join us for an evening of learning basic computing and getting to ask your related questions in a low-pressure group environment.

We'll be covering the parts of a computing device (including desktops, laptops, tablets, and smart phones), typical button and screen functionality, and effectively troubleshooting hardware issues. You're welcome to bring your mobile device(s) with you as well as use our varied devices.
