New Evening Beginning Computer Class in August
The Berkeley Public Library will be offering a free beginner's computer class at Central Library in the 3rd floor Electronic Classroom during August on Monday evenings from August 3rd through August 31st, 6:00PM to 6:50PM. For further information: 510-981-6148

Celebrate Peace Day with Origami Cranes @ BPL
On August 6, the 64th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, Berkeley Public Library will celebrate Peace Day along with others from around the world who will stop to remember the bombing & do what they can to see that it never happens again.
Since 1995, the Library has marked Peace Day with a reading of Eleanor Coerr's Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. This year's program will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the 4th floor story room of the Central Library, 2090 Kittredge Street, Berkeley.

Bizarre Shorts
Enjoy an evening of eclectic performances at the Bizarre Shorts Showcase performed by Berkeley Public Library's Teen PlayReaders. The show begins on Saturday, August 15th at 7:30 PM at Willard Middle School's Metal Shop Theater at 2425 Stuart Street.

New Evening Beginning Computer Class in August

The Berkeley Public Library will be offering a free beginning computer class during August on Monday evenings from August 3rd through August 31st, 6:00PM to 6:50PM in the Electronic Classroom, which is on the 3rd floor of the Central Library. The class is on a drop-in basis, self-paced and relaxed. All beginners are welcome. Please contact the Reference Desk for further information: 510-981-6148.

Bay Area Travel Writer Carole Terwilliger Meyers to Speak at the North Branch Library

Carole Terwilliger Meyers, one of the bay area's most popular travel writers, will be appearing at the North Branch Berkeley Public Library on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. Her books on weekend adventures in the bay area are favorites for local fun seekers and visitors alike. Ms. Meyers will show slides and discuss some of her favorite travel destinations. Come learn something new about your own back yard!

Poet/Librarians Read at the Berkeley Public Library

Join local poets Marc Elihu Hofstadter, former Librarian at the San Francisco Municipal Railway, and Berkeley Public Library's Community Relations Librarian Alan Bern for a poetry reading sponsored by the Berkeley Public Library and the Friends of the Berkeley Public Library. This free program will be held in the 3rd floor Community Meeting Room at the Central Library in Downtown Berkeley on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 3:00 pm and is a wonderful opportunity to experience the splendid poetry of Marc Elihu Hofstadter and Alan Bern's Preview of a Performance to celebrate Cragmont Rock Park in Berkeley (Celebration to be held at Cragmont Rock Park, 960 Regal Road, October 4, 2:30pm).
