Encore is the New Default Search for the BPL Catalog!
Last month, we introduced a new way to find library books and magazine articles with Encore. This month, we are making it our default catalog search interface from our home page. To learn more about Encore, click "About Encore" under the BPL logo on any Encore screen.

Our Classic Catalog Has a New Look!
There are some features that we will always need to access through our Classic Catalog. These features include: account management, subject browsing, call number searching, and lists of New Arrivals (there will be a link to New Arrivals under the BPL logo in Encore). Our new Classic Catalog has all of the same features as our old Classic Catalog and will not go away. In addition, Classic Catalog supports several new features. To learn about changes we've made as well as the new features, click the "Help" link in the upper right-hand corner of any Classic Catalog screen.

SPONSORED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE BERKELEY PUBLIC LIBRARY

Berkeley Public Library is celebrating this year's Banned Book Week with an ongoing display beginning September 26 in the entrance lobby of the Central library. The Banned Bookmobile consists of nine hanging books that have been challenged or banned throughout history. The titles include The Odyssey by Homer, which Plato suggested expurgating for immature readers and which Caligula tried to suppress because it expressed Greek ideals of freedom. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was burned in 2001 outside a church in New Mexico and Adventures of Captain Underpants brings up the rear after being removed from a school in Connecticut due to concerns that is caused unruly behavior among children.
