Gifts & Policies

The Berkeley History Room accepts gifts of books, photographs, flyers, videos, posters, maps, and other materials about Berkeley which are in keeping with its Collection Development Policy. In general, the Library does not accept collections of original documents. The Library reserves the right to decline any offered gift.

The Berkeley History Room contains a non-circulating collection covering all aspects and periods of Berkeley history, including geography, politics, arts and architecture, people, businesses, organizations, and social groups. The collection includes most printed books about Berkeley, full runs of most local newspapers, as well as selected photographs, flyers, videos, posters, maps, and City documents.

The Berkeley History Room does not collect works unrelated to Berkeley history by Berkeley authors , artifacts or ephemera,  or  original archives from groups or individuals.  Artifacts and ephemera are collected by the Berkeley Historical Society and Museum. Original archives are collected by the University of California’s Bancroft Library.
