Thelonious “Monk” Ellison's writing career has stalled because his work isn't deemed “Black enough.” Monk, a writer and English professor, writes a satirical novel under the pseudonym Stagg R. Lee, aiming to expose the publishing world's hypocrisies. The novel's immediate success forces Monk to become more involved with his assumed identity and challenges long-held beliefs.

Tonight's movie is an award-winning adaptation of Percival Everett's 2001 darkly funny novel Erasure, which won the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. Director Cord Jefferson garnered over a dozen awards for his screenplay and the film won both the Critic's Choice Best Picture and the BET Best Movie Awards.

Join us each Wednesday evening at the Claremont Branch Library and enjoy the company of fellow film lovers and a terrific movie. This series is made possible though a generous gift of the Berkeley Friends of the Library.
