Join Bay Rise and Berkeley Public Library for introductory coding sessions, building games with Scratch!
All of these games are friendly introductions to universal coding concepts through the easy and engaging medium of Scratch, block-based coding language. Kids will have fun designing their own characters and game elements while learning how to program, and eventually make their own games.
Three standalone sessions, ideal for those ~Ages 9-12 who want an intro to coding
Registration required for each session - https://bplkidscoding.eventbrite.com
Session 1 - Wednesday, September 27th
Simple Scratch Chasing Game: We will be using Scratch to create a game where you play as a character that tries to escape the enemy by moving around the screen. Kids will learn about the coordinate plane, and how to register user inputs.
Session 2 - Wednesday, October 4th
Simple Maze Game: We will be using Scratch to create a game where the goal is to move your cursor onto the center of the screen without hitting any of the obstacles we have put in place. Kids will learn about if-statements, variables, and more general game design concepts.
Session 3 - Wednesday, October 11th
Simple Gravity Game: We will be using Scratch to create a game where the goal is to fly through certain obstacles. This will be slightly more challenging than the other games because we will be implementing gravity into the game. Kids will learn about loops, if-statements and variables.
