Tacuma King is a teacher and master percussionist who brings an expansive knowledge of music and dance combined with a warmth and playful magic to his classes and workshops for kids. Hear and try the djembe, dundun, and conga drums in this special interactive program.

The West African Dundun and Djembe drumming tradition is an old performance art form of the Susu and Mandinka peoples of the region and can be found throughout Mali, Guinea, Senegal, Gambia and the Ivory Coast. Tacuma King was introduced to the tradition of the drum by an older brother, and went on to study with Moshe Millon of the Sun Drummers of Chicago before moving to the Bay Area where he met Papa Zak Diouf, master of Western drumming, song and dance. Mr. King is the founder of the Children in Flight drumming program and has worked with the San Francisco Symphony, the Sun Ra Arkestra, Cross Pulse, Shaka Zulu, and the Bantaba Dance Ensemble, among others.
