All Your Favorite Music is (Probably) Black @Central

Join us at the Berkeley Public Library’s Central Library 5th Floor for All Your Favorite Music is (Probably) Black, a humorous, highly immersive, and historically accurate talk that uncovers the African-American roots of popular music genres that appear to be free of African-Americans. Utilizing a rich audiovisual presentation, Mark Montgomery French reveals the sonic secrets behind African-Americans’ cultural invisibility within the musical categories they helped define.

Death Café @West

You are invited to a Death Café experience where people, often strangers, gather to discuss death.

The objective is “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives”. The experience will be a group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. Death Cafés help people talk about death and dying in a supportive, unstructured way.

Create Calendars with Canva @Central EC

Join us for a workshop where we will create colorful planners using Canva. In this class you will sign up for a free Canva account, learn how to browse pre-made templates, and change them to meet your own scheduling needs and design preferences. We will also demonstrate how to build a planner from scratch. Monthly and weekly planner formats will be discussed along with other ideas to incorporate into your planner. Once created, librarians will be available to print and laminate your created calendar to take home with you.
