Playreaders do exactly what the name says: it's an interactive program where participants read aloud from plays, changing parts frequently so everyone gets a chance to bring theater to life.
June's play will be "People Where They Are" by Anthony Clarvoe. Although recently published, it's set in 1955 at the Highlander School in Tennessee back when it was illegal for blacks and whites to mix in the classroom. The author draws important parallels between the racial and socio-economic struggles of the 1950s and 60s and current issues that face American society today such as immigration, voter suppression, and LGBTQ rights.
The Stage in San Jose says Clarvoe takes us to the raw essence of human conflict.
Come experience plays they way they were meant to be....Heard!
We will be voting on future plays soon so make a point to join us!
Plays are usually selected by the participants, during an annual vote. Scripts are provided by the library.
