Come along to this interactive event where co-author Laura Atkins will share her new picture book, Calling All Future Voters! – co-written with voting rights advocates Edward Hailes, Jr. and Jennifer Lai Peterson.
Laura and Peter Limata – famous from Storytime with Mr. Limata - will then help young readers understand what voting is and why it’s important. Kids will have a chance to talk about issues they care about, and even make a poster to share their ideas. A perfect event for families who want to engage in the importance of voting and civic action during this election season. Best suited for 3rd-6th graders.

About:
Laura Atkins is a children's book author, editor, and writing coach. She co-wrote the first two books in the Fighting for Justice series, including Fred Korematsu Speaks Up, winner of several awards including the Carter G. Woodson Award and the Jane Addams Honor Award. She and coauthor Stan Yogi have spoken to over 8,000 students at over 50 schools. She also co-wrote Biddy Mason Speaks Up with poet Arisa White, which won a Nautilus and Independent Publisher Book Award. She lives in Berkeley with her family and their dog Milly.
Peter Limata is a public school elementary educator and literacy advocate for young readers. He was born and raised in Lusaka, Zambia and now lives in Oakland California. Peter has been reading and telling stories since childhood. You can see Peter at a venue near you reading and telling stories and every weekday on his YouTube and Facebook channels through his show dubbed Story Time with Mr. Limata. The show is rooted in social justice and promotes reading and access to books for families--the young and young at heart.
