Best of the Best 90-Second Newbery Film Fest (Bay Area Book Festival)
Drawing and Talking Little Monarchs w/ Jonathan Case - TIME CHANGE
Thanks to all those who registered for the event!
Unfortunately Jonathan Case experienced some car trouble on his drive up to the Bay Area. He still hopes to make the event, with a shift in time.
The event will now take place with Jonathan from 4:30-5:30pm, and at 4pm we will also have some art materials and guidance if you’d like to get drawing. At that time you would also be able to get a free copy of Little Monarchs while supplies last, along with wildflower seed packets to take home!
We will keep you updated if anything else changes!
Gene Luen Yang, author of Marvel’s Shang-Chi!
Gene Luen Yang joins us again this year to discuss his latest work and the reclamation (and representation) of the original Shang-Chi character in the Marvel universe. His work is a perennial favorite of Berkeley’s high school students and community teens who have read his graphic novel, American Born Chinese. Attendees of this event will be able to connect this presentation to themes of identity, belonging, racism, xenophobia, and the Chinese immigrant experience.
