Herencia Guantanamera is bringing the rhythms of Eastern Cuba, with the crossover influence of Haitian culture, to celebrate and share this rich Afro-Caribbean cultural heritage with Berkeley kids and families.

Come experience the traditions, music, dance, and history of a unique region.

Benvenue Beats: Ritmos Latinos

The Benvenue Beats Mini Music Festival is back! Come celebrate Latinx Heritage Month with music and community. We'll be closing down the street for this open-air event featuring some of the Bay Area's finest performers including Mariela Herrera, La Familia Peña-Govea, and the Afro-Peruvian dance company Cunamacué. All ages are welcome. See you there!

In the Stax Music Series @THPS

Berkeley Public Library presents In The Stax Music Series

  

We have a special performance from Josh Aldana of the California Jazz Conservatory who will be playing music live at the Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch. 

The California Jazz Conservatory is a long standing music conservatory in the heart of Downtown Berkeley and has been devoted solely to the study and performance of the African American art form, jazz, and related styles of music. 

Join us for a live performance of music in the library stacks on Tuesday, August 8th at 6pm.

Jazz Tribute to Muziki Roberson @THPS

Join us as we pay tribute to Bay Area Jazz Legend Muziki Roberson. 

Muziki Roberson was a highly respected jazz pianist who had a unique style of performing that would evoke the true feeling of this soulful genre. His music was truly spiritual and he inspired and influenced Bay Area jazz music deeply.

He passed away in late August 2022 but is still remembered and celebrated by the Bay Area jazz community and his friends and family.

In The Stax Music Series @THPS

Berkeley Public Library presents In The Stax a Music Series. 

We will have musical performances in the stacks of our library throughout the summer and fall season. Intimate performances of live music will be at all locations with this being the first installment. 

The introductory event will be performed by keyboardist Marco Casasola. Marco is a Bay Area based musician who plays every key from piano to organ. 

Join us as we kick off National Night Out with music in the library.

Dance & Rhythm With La Mezcla

La Mezcla is a poly rythmic dance group rooted in Chicana, Latina, Indigenous traditions and social justice. Come enjoy their award winning documentary followed by a dance demonstration.

Founded in 2015 by Dance/USA fellow Vanessa Sanchez, their work brings together Tap dance, Son Jarocho and Afro-Caribbean rhythms to bring the often unseen histories and experiences of communities of color to stages, streets and fields
