Berkeley Public Library presents one of the Jazzschool’s rising stars, pianist Erika Oba, with Chris Bastian, bass in a noontime concert of Ms. Oba’s original compositions. Her recent work has explored various Japanese music forms such as the Okinawan sanshin tradition, taiko music and contemporary folk music. This intimately arranged duo set with bass player Chris Bastian presents her most recent material.

Berkeley Public Library invites you to a free financial education seminar on budgeting. Get tips for saving money and living on a budget. Learn different ways to save and what options are available to help you meet your financial goals. This one-hour seminar will be held in the Community Meeting Room at Berkeley Public Library’s Central Library, 2090 Kittredge Street, at noon on Thursday, November 17. This is one in a series of seminars brought to you in partnership with the USE Credit Union. There will be one seminar a month through March 2012. Come to one or all. Book Into Film: An Education

Berkeley Public Library invites you to participate in an examination of An Education, a stylish coming-of-age story about a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London. It explores how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age. This award-winning film was adapted by Nick Hornby from a chapter of Lynn Barber’s memoir of the same name. Discussion group participants will read the book at home and then gather at 1:30 on Sunday, November 20, 2011 in the 3rd floor Community Meeting Room at Berkeley’s Central Library, 2090 Kittredge Street to view the film together. After viewing the film, participants will discuss the book, the movie and the art of adaptation.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, this free Book and Film program at the Central Library offers adult and teen patrons the opportunity to discuss books, films and the art of adaptation.
