New: Language Exchange

What is the Language Exchange Program? Be in a group with someone who speaks the language you are learning, and who wants to practice speaking your native language. You will take turns practicing both languages. For example, 30 minutes in one language and then 30 minutes in the other. This way, both of you can learn and improve together! Languages include English, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Turkish, etc.

When is it? We hope to start in early fall, but do not have a date right now. If you sign up, we will let you know the date and time of the first meeting.

Where is it? This will happen in-person at Berkeley Public Library West Branch on University Ave and San Pablo (1125 University Ave. Berkeley, Ca).

How do I sign up? Use the Sign Up Form or call 510-981-6070 or email jweston@berkeleyca.gov for more information.

Design the Library's Next Library Card!

The Library will have a new library card this year… created by a community member! Artists of all ages are encouraged to submit designs by Thursday, June 13.

The theme is “kindness.” Submit photos, drawings and designs that represent the way that kindness is created and felt in our communities.

Kindness is a core value that library staff strive toward to, whether it is at one of our programs, at an outreach event or at our service desks. We see community members being kind to one another every day in our libraries.

What says Kindness to you?

“Berkeley is full of creative people so we can’t wait to see what is created,” says Rudy Tapia, Circulation Services Manager. "Soon, everyone will be able to take a little bit of kindness with them in the form of a library card!”

The Friends of the Library's Big Sale!

There will be THOUSANDS of books, cds & dvds for sale for JUST 50¢ each!

  • Nonfiction: art books, biographies, cookbooks, ephemera, history, music, poetry, psychology, religion, science and vintage books
  • Fiction: novels, mysteries, classics, science fiction and graphic novels.
  • PLUS: children's books for all ages.

Central Library, 3rd floor Community Meeting Room

Thank you Friends for all you do to provide funding for our wonderful library programs & events!

Reminder:

All Library locations will be closed on Friday, June 21 for the Juneteenth holiday.
