Berkeley Public Library to Host Berkeley Tech Fair, September 15
Participants will have the opportunity to take home a free refurbished desktop computer
and learn about low-cost Internet options.
Berkeley, CA - August 31, 2018- Berkeley Public Library, the City of Berkeley, Tech Exchange, and Internet Essentials will host the Berkeley Tech Fair on Saturday, September 15 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Berkeley Public Library located at 2090 Kittredge Street, Berkeley, CA 94704.
“50% of low-income households don’t have a computer and internet at home, an issue we need to urgently address for our community to thrive,” said Tech Exchange’s Executive Director Seth Hubbert. “Providing an event such as the Berkeley Tech Fair is an initial step to ensure community members have the resources, tools, and skills they need to be productive online.”
Tech Exchange is a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting digital equity for residents across the East Bay. For over 20 years, they have provided free refurbished computers and digital literacy training to low-income families and have supported schools' and community centers' technology needs. Through such programs, the group has contributed to diverting at least 700 tons of e-waste from landfills.
The Tech Fair will provide the opportunity for attendees to receive a free refurbished computer and learn about low-cost options for Internet access. Attendees will also engage with community service partners to learn about available resources. The Berkeley Tech Fair is a free event and no registration is required.
The Central Library is located at 2090 Kittredge Street and is open Monday, noon – 8:00 pm; Tuesday, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm; Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm; and Sunday from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
Wheelchair accessible. For questions, to request a sign language interpreter or other accommodations for this event, please call (510) 981-6195 (voice) or (510) 548-1240 (TTY); at least five working days will help ensure availability.
